"When they had head these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way." Matthew 22v22 |

How often have we sat in ministry meetings, and marvelled because of what the speaker has said, but then gone our ways leaving the Lord behind?
The Pharisees came to Jesus to try and accuse Him, to be able then to arrest Him. They found that they had no answer to His words. |
| They marvelled: "Wonderful ministry. Thoroughly enjoyed your word." These phrases go round again and again. Yet, the word is the Lord's, as the two on the road to Emmaus testified: "Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way and while he opened to us the scriptures?" These disciples recognised that it was the Lord who spoke to them and caused their hearts to burn. Therefore, we should recognise that every message is from the Lord and if our hearts burn, it is He that has spoken. We should then listen carefully again to what was said and ask "What has God just told me?" |
| And left him: While they physically were able to leave His presence, it is possible that they had no change of heart, in light of the next bit. We as Christians should never leave our Lord. A phrase from my child hood is, "if God seems far away, who moved?" God never moves from us, but we can and do move from Him. |
| And went their way: Instead of there being a change in their behaviour, they returned to their old ways. Today, far too many profess to be a Christian but return to their old ways. Or how many stop walking the pathway, just when all seems well? Many once walked so well (I personally know of many who no longer walk the path and follow the Lord). This teaches us that we need to be separate from the world and not continuing in the things of this world. |
| Let us go and continue in our walk, recognising the Lord speaking to our hearts. |
